Cupping
At STAR Performance and Concierge, one of our primary goals is to reduce pain and improve your performance, whether in sports or your daily life. One of the ways we accomplish this is by combining personalized, one-on-one physical therapy with advanced techniques, such as therapeutic cupping.
What is Cupping?
Cupping is a conservative treatment used to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and release tight tissues. During the treatment, a cup made of glass, bamboo, or other materials is applied to the skin to create suction. The result is increased blood flow and improvements in range of motion. Cupping has also been shown to reduce fascial adhesions and improve relaxation. The result? Accelerated healing for you, the patient.
Benefits of Cupping
Although every patient is different, cupping can be an effective part of treatment for the following conditions:
- Sprains
- Strains
- Post-Surgical Tightness
- Neck Pain
- Shoulder Pain
- Back Pain
- Radiculopathies
- Sciatica
- Sports-related injuries
- Muscle soreness
Cupping is most effective for these conditions when it is paired with exercise and hands-on treatment techniques. When used alone, patients experience short-term relief, but lasting benefits occur when it is combined with strengthening, manual therapy, and exercise prescription. It is not intended for patients with nerve compression, fractures, or inflammatory conditions.
At STAR Performance and Concierge, your therapy journey is not cookie-cutter; it is personal to you. We choose the treatments that are unique to your goals and needs. Your therapist will assess your condition and decide if cupping is appropriate for you.
